CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (IGCSE)

The Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualifications for 14 to 16 year old’s. The Cambridge IGCSE provides students with uniformity of education around the world. The Cambridge IGCSE is a globally recognized qualification that provides a solid basis for further education, such as Cambridge A Levels (also offered at KBH), the IB Diploma, and university programs worldwide. It is aligned with the standards of the UK's GCSE examinations.

The Cambridge IGCSE key features are:

  • Global Recognition: IGCSE qualifications are widely accepted by universities and employers globally, facilitating international educational and career progression.

  • Assessment: IGCSE evaluation occurs at the end of the course through various methods, including written and oral exams, coursework, and practical assessments, allowing students to demonstrate their knowledge effectively. All examinations are set and marked by Cambridge International. KBH is an accredited Cambridge International Examination Center and is licensed to conduct Cambridge IGCSE examinations at its Bukit Merah campus.

  • Grading System: IGCSEs are typically graded from A* to G, with a 9-1 scale option also available in some regions to match the UK system (9 being the highest).

  • Exam Sessions: Exams are held twice a year at KBH (May/June and October/November), with results released in August and January, respectively. Most KBH students will sit the May/June exam sessions.

  • Cambridge ICE (International Certificate in Education): This group award is given to students who successfully pass at least seven IGCSE subjects from multiple subject including two languages and one subject from each of the other four subject groups. It is possible to obtain the ICE award at KBH for IGCSE provided students take a second language other than English.

  • KBH A Levels Fees Per Year:

    • Tuition Fees: $13080 (including GST).

    • Cambridge Programme and Course Materials Fees: $1526 (including GST)

    • Science Practical Sessions, Cambridge A Level Examinations and Student Insurance are charged separately.

The following subjects are offered by KBH as part of Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). All subjects are taught by subject matter specialist teachers and are offered as core or extended modules to accomadate different levels of ability.

NOTE: To obtain the ICE Award, students will have to take Mandarin Chinese Foreign Language as a subject, in order to fulfil the second language criteria of the ICE award.

  • The Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualifications for 14 to 16 year olds. The Cambridge IGCSE provides students with uniformity of education around the world. The curriculum focuses on skill development and creative thinking. If your child is considering studying abroad, the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum is a good choice, as it is globally recognised and used to determine if your child can get admission to the world’s top universities.

  • We offer all of our students a rigorous, yet balanced, inquiry-based education on a full time basis over a 22 month period. Lessons are 50 minutes in duration and the school day runs from 8.30 - 3.30 daily.

    Throughout the academic year, our students are involved in highly engaging learning experiences which develop not only their academic understanding but also their sense of responsibility to the world in which they live. All Cambridge IGCSE subjects are taught by subject matter specialists.

  • Cambridge Assessment International Education is a reputable and independent organisation that has been providing international assessments for over 150 years. 

    At the end of the Cambridge IGCSE course, assessments for each IGCSE subject will be conducted at Knightsbridge House International School by trained Cambridge invigilators, in accordance with the standards and assessments prescribed by Cambridge Assessment International Education. The assessments will be returned to the UK for grading by Cambridge Assessment International Education.

    Assessment for each Cambridge IGCSE subject will range from written to oral tests, as well as practical exams and coursework for each chosen subject. 

    The Cambridge IGCSE grading system is designed to be reliable and consistent across different subjects and countries. The Cambridge IGCSE provides our students with a formal and internationally recognised set of standardised results which can be used to admit them to tertiary institutions.

    Students are required to pass a minimum of 7 IGCSE subjects to obtain the Cambridge IGCSE certification and therefore graduation from the Course.

  • At the KBH the Cambridge IGCSE takes 22 months to complete on a full time basis.

    The Cambridge IGCSE Course at KBH commences in August of each year and completes in June, 22 months later.

  • 1:28. Average class size 20-25 students.

  • Students must be 14 years of age at the time of entry into the course (unless age exemption is granted by the Head of School). Evidence must be provided in the form of school reports or other agreed documentary evidence that Year 9 or equivalent has been completed. Students must be proficient in English or must be willing to undertake additional English language support at KBH.
